Mauro Libi Crestani: Corporate sustainability is a task for all

The current trend is that more and more workers and professionals prefer to join companies with social and environmental commitment. They are more satisfied.
In fact , 50 percent of employees  responded on a survey that stated that if they had the opportunity, would have opted for one of these companies' "green".

Working in such companies apparently encourages workers with this new vision.
Sustainable organizations would be those in which both employees and the organization are committed to environmental defense and environmental  responsibility.

But the key is to define what is meant by sustainability, it is important to know why and how you can collaborate on the issue with concrete initiatives.

As a way can be the formation of an environmental committee to open channels for workers to effectively join the substantive company efforts aimed at sustainability.
And the question goes beyond the simple desire to boost "green" in their daily lives and at home, but to understand how the company for which they work can join the fight in terms of eco-efficiency. a guide is required in this regard that paute how employees can participate beyond statements to collaborate with the commitment to establish a corporate sustainability strategy.

Also establish a rewards program in which the company is committed to sustainability requires management infrastructure, which results in the set and define a clear business vision, goals and objectives.

We must not forget that this is business, so alongside the objective of achieving sustainability is that of achieving profitability.

The goal of sustainability must have the firm and decisive senior management for decision-making that strung the issue and allocation of resources to achieve support. The rewards program would be aimed at recognizing the efforts and strengthen the commitment to join with initiatives aimed at the twin objectives of sustainability and profitability.

It is required to publicize what the expectations are and how progress will be measured, so you have to define the roles and responsibilities, education and training in sustainability to clarify the technical and business skills.

Similarly there are set the way the company will measure progress in meeting the goals, innovation and project management.

Thus, it is imperative that workers are involved in the planning and implementation of policies and sustainability projects.

Forming functional teams for training and support; as well as improvement and review of environmental and social issues that are aimed at developing best practices; encourage workers to commit to sustainability and reward effective efforts to reach it.

The purpose and goals of sustainability of a company are useless if not supported and unrestricted commitment of workers. Without them, half the battle is lost.

Mauro Libi: Positive attitude and productivity

By Mauro Libi. Most executives agree that their companies spend too much money on low-priority initiatives and cut costs indiscriminately, says new Strategy & Survey of over 500 executives warns companies may be diverting money away from strategically important projects

Executives worldwide say low-priority initiatives get too much funding, cost-cutting isn’t strategic and budgeting isn’t tightly aligned with strategic planning at their companies. Cost-cutting is haphazard and weakens the business; it should strengthen it.

There has to be a balance between investment in initiatives and in keeping cost down. If a business does not initiate new initiatives and ideas it will lose in our competitive society to that company that does. So how does a corporation in such a competitive environment survive without investing a hefty sum on change initiatives ?

The answer is lies in part in the problem.   More than 70% of change initiatives fail. That means 70% of the investment in change initiatives turn to failure. Many have worked on trying to solve and bring down this failure rate.  A company can invest much less in change if it did not have so much cash investment lost to failure.

Before change is attempted and large sums of cash invested, the question should be - how is the mental health of the business? This may seem like a strange question to ask on a corporation. But let's think. It is known that many of the failed initiatives have to do with the management and employees that need to put those initiatives into effect. It's not just having a good idea that leads to success but that good idea needs to be acted on. Action by the employees is needed to see this initiative succeed.

In many cases this comes down to the attitude that is pervasive in the company when a change initiative comes down from management. A positive attitude toward this idea and the company in general are the key to success.

Positive attitude manifests in the following ways:

Positive thinking, Constructive thinking, Creative thinking, Optimism, Motivation and energy to do things and accomplish goals.

By having a positive attitude management and the employees will expect success and not failure. Making  then feel inspired. and it will help them have the strength to not to give up, if you encounter obstacles on your way.

Investment to change is essential to a company but so is the need to create a work environment and hire people with the positive attitude to see it through and succeed.( Mauro Libi)

Mauro Libi: What actions can you take this week, small or large, to empower others to provide innovative leadership?

Through transformational leadership you can foster creative solutions by establishing innovative platforms for employee-created ideas.

Doing this can take a shift in thinking away from management-only solutions that others implement, to seeing employees as a powerful source of innovative solutions, as well as successful implementation. Mauro Libi.

Many of the most successful organizations in the world today are finding that creating new avenues for employees to collaborate and be innovative yields possibilities for growth. Just being aware of some of what others are accomplishing can inspire your own creative work.

For example, Wells Fargo and Unilever are using technology to engage employees’ creativity in a way that almost one fifth of all enterprises now use–cloud computing and websites. They succeed by establishing platforms for brainstorming and creative worker-generated solutions. Such platforms give employees a place to contribute new ideas, source solutions, and create prototypes that can be translated into actual projects.

At Intuit (the personal finance-software developer), employees not only suggest new ideas, but also gather resources and staff needed to go to market. All this is done without management approval. The results are clearly emerging in the dozens of products and features now producing revenue.

EMC, the big data organization, hosts innovation contests where strategic problems are posed by various business units for employees to solve. Workers create solutions and give input, as well as vote online for the top ideas. Outstanding breakthroughs also come when employees team up to breathe life into some of the innovative solutions that are failing.

Transformational leadership can also provide a unique way of restructuring the organization that empowers employees to lead innovation.

At Gore, a team drives everything. In fact, if you can convince others that you have a great idea with potential, you can start a team.

These teams form the main structural units of the company and are comprised of self-managed groups of associates who are responsible to each other. They rely on each other’s creative contribution for a project’s success and even determine each other’s compensation.

Here are some keys to structure and principles that foster innovation at Gore:

Lines of communication are direct and responsibilities are lateral.
Information and peer review are a norm.
They have more coaches than bosses.
If you give the right people good tools and knowledge, it will bring out the best in everyone.
If you trust in individuals, they will do the right thing.
Gore’s innovative structural approach to managing and empowering employees to be creative is yielding great results. They are one of the largest private firms in the world, and reportedly one of the most profitable.

The common approach at all these organizations is an active commitment and awareness that people are not only their greatest asset, but also a treasure house of creativity and innovation.  By Jane Downes.

Mauro Libi Crestani: If you believe you will succeed you are right, if you believe that you will fail, you are also right: The choice is yours.

As a child my dad once bought me a ring. It had many different colors and its colors would change. He told me that it was a mood ring. I was too little to understand that it was just a toy. As I took a test in my third grade class.  I put on my ring and was happy to see that the colors were mixed between purple for cool and blue for calm and relaxed . My nervousness over the test disappeared and I did very well. If the ring would have shown a black color (stressed) or a red color (fear) or maybe even a yellow color (nervousness) , who knows how I would have performed.

Back then I did not know that a mood ring is a ring that contains a thermochromic element, such as liquid crystal that change colors based upon the temperature of the finger of the wearer. I did well because a toy ring gave me a positive feedback that I was calm and I believed it and as a result I did real well on my exam. Positive thinking will achieve positive results. Had I been given negative feedback, who knows if I would have done as well because there is a belief that negative thinking can not achieve positive results.

Norman Vincent Peale in the 1950’s wrote a book called the Power of Positive Thinking and I quote, “Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture... Do not build up obstacles in your imagination.”

As a child, it took a toy ring to bring me the confidence to believe that I should be calm and that I will succeed. In real life, you have the power to be successful with your attitude. A proper positive attitude in life is what is needed. If you have negative thought and feeling you can not succeed. The good news is that you can change your attitude. You can be successful if you so choose. If you always put limits on everything you do physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them – Bruce Lee.

Your mind is a powerful thing when you fill it with positive thoughts your life will start to change. By Mauro Libi Crestani

Mauro Libi Crestani: “Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright.”

By Mauro Libi Crestani. Living with a positive attitude is not only a way to business and personal success, it will allow you to happy with your success. Bob Marley sang songs that promoted positive attitude and thinking. For him it was a way of life.

We all have times when worry, stress, and anxiety control our lives.  When times are tough it’s easy to get caught up in worry and dread, and think that it’s not going to turn out well. Marley had a message….

“Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright.”

In our darkest moments, Bob urges us to hold firm, as life is a cycle, and what is now bad will return to good, and what is good will return to bad.

Essentially, he’s conveying here that there are a lot of things in life that are beyond our control, and that it makes no sense to catch a headache about such things.

It’s just a matter of getting yourself to believe it. Believe it!

“Though the road’s been rocky, it sure feels good to me.”
There are times when things are not going well, a good leader knows how to handle these times and not only finds them challenging, they know that they will win in the end. President John Kennedy said that the Chinese spell the word crisis with two strokes. One meaning danger and the other meaning opportunity. John Kennedy was saying that the Chinese saw opportunity when the road gets  rocky. Bob Marley had the same thought in his lyrics….
“When one door is closed, don’t you know that many more are open.”

His lyrics expands that thinking of the Chinese phrase and gets you to realize that it’s not just one door of opportunity that opens, but many. There are always more opportunities to be had, so you don’t need to feel too invested in any one thing. It’s a bit limiting to think that only one door opens when one closes, and much more liberating to think that in fact there are several more opportunities for each one that doesn’t work out.

Become the best at what you do. Education and skill are what can make you great.
We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind

Being a positive person allows you to do things that you never imagined that you could do because negative thought hold you back from achieving all that you are capable of. But being positive is not enough, you need free your mind with skill and education. Putting together a positive attitude and a great education (mind) then no one could hold you back from success and happiness. By Mauro Libi Crestani.

Mauro Libi Crestani: "Positive thinking is not only expecting the best to happen! But it is also about accepting that whatever happens is for the best…”.

By Mauro Libi. Life definitely presents its challenges. When we are presented with a task to accomplish there are three periods of time that can either hinder us or enhance our abilities to see the task through.

A few months ago I went to a friend’s graduation. The guest speaker was a middle aged female CEO. She told a story of how her success started. The other students in her graduation class were limited by their lack of experience. When they went on interviews, it was always the same story. The job interviewer always asked about what experience that the graduate had with maybe a software program that they never worked on or with some business system that they knew nothing about. The graduate had to be honest and say that they lacked the experience and the job went off to someone else. This CEO when she first went on her first interviews “Postitve thinking is not only expecting the best to happen! Bit it is also about spoke about her experience with software and systems that she knew nothing about. You see, she was a believer that each opportunity was for her growth potential and in her best interest. She also believed that whatever skill they wanted and needed that she could learn the skill before she started her job. So she did not consider her tale of experience to be a fallacy. She was so positive that she would be proficient in this software and skill if she put her mind to it. When she got that first job, she put in her full efforts to learn everything that she could to be fully trainer and knowledgeable and the best at what was expected of her and she succeeded.

Now, this is not my story and I am not telling anyone to lie on a job interview. I am talking about believing in your ability to be the best by study and effort and to act on it today because you have this positive belief in your own ability.

“If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you are not sure that you can do it, say yes – then latter you can learn how to do it.” , Richard Branson. If you do not know who Richard Branson is, he struggled in school and dropped out at age 16. His entrepreneurial projects started in the music industry and expanded into other sectors making Branson a billionaire.

The worst thing that one can do is let past failures effect their perception of their ability and to hold them back from trying. Many of the most successful men like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison saw past failures as the experience to help you in the future. Most of us, however, because of past failure , get a negative notion of our ability to succeed and get depressed. As a result of this negative notion and depression we give up before we even begin by Mauro Libi Crestani.
