A Japanese
beer company called Kirin Brewery decided to become part of Shared Value Initiative.
They wanted to effect social change.
First, they felt that as a company providing alcoholic beverages that they
should share the responsibility for drunk driving. So they developed the first
non-alcoholic beverage that taste like beer called Kirin-free. Drunk driving in
Japan has decreased 63% in the last 20 years and Kirin would like to think that
they played a part.
When an
earthquake hit in 2011 in Japan, Kirin launched a support program providing six
million yen to assist in the reconstruction efforts. They also are using the
juice of pears produced in the Fukushima region. This area had rumors after a
nuclear accident that were not true that the trees were harmful.
One does not
think of an alcoholic company as benefiting society, but
as Kirin Co. has proven with shared valueinitiative,
we all can help each other by working together toward a common .
